Demons are very prevalent but most people are either ignorant of them or afraid of them, but they can be very influential, even in countries like the United States of America. Most Illnesses and physical problems are demonically induced; but they can also be caused by toxins, accidents, infections, etc. Mental problems caused by demons are more easily healed than physical problems. There are more demonic activities and attacks during the full moon and at the solstices, which are the first days of summer and winter. Demons often attack through people close to you.
We all have weak places. The demons push us to satisfy legitimate needs through illegitimate means. They have no mercy and often attack children. The enemy’s ultimate purpose is to separate us from God.
Because of the delegated authority that Jesus has given the Christian, we can order demonic spirits to leave a person and we can also order them to leave ourselves. Demonic spirits will know if you have faith and know your authority.
1. I (Jesus) have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19
2. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my (Jesus’) name they will drive out demons. Mark 16:17a
Demons are always a consequence of sin, either our sin or another’s sin. Such things as unforgiveness, judgments, vows, altars, believing lies, body memories and various unconfessed sins give rights to demons. If a person has gone through this booklet and carefully sought the Lord about what prayers they needed to pray, they have removed a number of these rights. In fact, many times as people read the scriptures and go over these prayers, they yawn or cough as demons leave because the demons no longer have a right to be there. Unforgiveness is one of the greatest causes of illness and incomplete deliverance.
Maybe family members have been in the occult or otherwise given rights for demonic spirits to come down the family line. These spirits can affect the family line in somewhat different ways in different generations, even skipping a generation. Generational spirits are especially stubborn because they have been in the family line for so long and they would have to find a new generational line. It takes about three generations to totally clean a bloodline of a sin.
We can cover ourselves with the blood of Jesus and order the demons not to transfer to anyone else, so do not be afraid that the spirits will jump onto you. We must live a life of obedience and be quick to repent and forgive and be accountable, and not go into a deliverance session with intentional sin. The demonic spirits will leave when they are ordered if there is no hold. If there is a right for the demon to be there, the person needs to repent and ask for forgiveness to remove that right. Confidentiality is very important in a deliverance session.
Once a demon leaves, one slip does not mean that the spirit is back, but continuing in sin causes us to lose ground and invites the spirit back. If a person does not want to give up sinful habits, but just wants to get rid of the demons, it will not work; the person needs to be serious, and a point of desperation is very helpful. A person wanting deliverance quite often needs to get to the place where the pain of the situation that they are in is greater than the risk to change and grow. We must love the person and hate the demons and encourage the person to grow spiritually.
Do not do deliverance on anyone that is not a Christian because they would have no protection from the spirits coming back.
Our vulnerability can start at a very young age. Were you wanted by your parents or a surprise pregnancy? Did your mother have a hard labor? Did your parents fight while you were in the womb? Feelings of rejection can start very early. What is your birth assignment? The enemy devises a battle plan to thwart that assignment.
The demons can speak to us in the first person so we think it is our thoughts, saying something like “I am stupid” or “Nobody likes me” and if we agree, that empowers demons also.
The demons first tempt us. Temptation is not a sin because Jesus was tempted.
3. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Hebrews 4:15
4. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. I Corinthians 10:13
Jesus called deliverance the children’s bread.
5. He (Jesus) replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” Matthew 15:26
If a demon manifests or takes over at least part of a person’s body, the person’s facial expression can change and they can exhibit great strength, but the demons can be ordered not to manifest.
The person being ministered to should not pray in tongues because they can unknowingly curse the ministers, but they can help in ordering the spirits to leave so that they will have some experience doing that.
People can be delivered at a distance, for example, over the phone, but it is a good idea to have somebody with the person before doing that. About a third of Jesus’ ministry was deliverance.
When commanding the demons to leave, be firm and know that you have authority over them. You do not need to know the names of spirits that you are coming against, but it is helpful. You can address any spirit as the one that is causing whatever is going on. It is best not to have children present when doing deliverance. Occult spirits are very common.
Demonic spirits can also attack a person by piercing them in their body with a spiritual weapon. The person will feel the pain, but the weapon will only be visible in the spirit, and the weapon can be pulled out. Most of the weapons are knives, spears, arrows or swords, sometimes with poison on them.
Demonic spirits will try to return after they are cast out.
6. When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation. Matthew 12:43-45 (Luke 11:24-26)
